| Ira Feldman, owner and creator of Sukkah
KitsTM, believes that for most
people, designing and assembling their own sukkah can rapidly drain the joy out of the
holiday. "About 20 years ago,"
Feldman, a designer and project manager in the construction field, explained, " a
relative of mine asked if I would build him a sukkah. I went the usual route: wood, nuts
and bolts. Not only was the whole contraption getting pretty expensive, it was heavy, hard
to put together, and a nuisance to take apart and store. So I started thinking about the
problem.
"I researched various sources, " he continued. "I
also talked to local rabbis and began exploring the halachic 'dos and don'ts' regarding
Sukkot. I learned more than I could have imagined and eventually came up with an ideal
design - a strong, tubular steel structure that was pleasing to the eye, simple to
construct, easy to store and expandable as one's family grew. I built it for my relative,
and he loved it. Pretty soon other people started calling me, wanting one too." |
Unlike
most prefabricated sukkahs, Sukkah KitsTM." are strong, lightweight, fire resistant, require no tools to assemble and
go up in about 36 minutes.
Vinyl sides are available
in a reed design or a laminated fabric reinforced with a nylon scrim. A budget model with
Poly tarp walls are also available. An optional full bamboo roof is also available.
Rust resistant steel corner fittings, guaranteed against
breakage, are designed to assure strength and safety by surrounding the frame tubing.
Custom materials, designs, and sizes are available.
"What began as a favor," concluded Feldman,
"turned into a very, satisfying business. Satisfying, because I feel I make it easier
for people to do the Mitzvah of Sukkot and share this magical holiday with family and
friends." - Staff Report
